Who is required to obtain an FSSAI License?
Any Food Business Operator (FBO) involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain an FSSAI Registration or License. This includes restaurants, grocery shops, online food aggregators, and importers.
There are three types: 1) Basic Registration for businesses with turnover less than ₹12 Lakhs. 2) State License for turnover between ₹12 Lakhs and ₹20 Crores. 3) Central License for turnover exceeding ₹20 Crores or for importers/exportors and operations in multiple states.
An FSSAI license is typically issued with a validity ranging from 1 to 5 years, as chosen by the food business operator. It must be renewed before its expiry to avoid penalties.
