What is a One Person Company (OPC)?
An OPC is a hybrid structure combining the sole ownership of a proprietorship with the limited liability of a private limited company. It allows a single individual to act as both a director and a shareholder.
Only a natural person who is an Indian citizen and resident in India can incorporate an OPC or become its nominee. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) or foreign citizens cannot form an OPC.
A nominee is mandatory during OPC incorporation. In the event of the sole member's death or incapacity, the nominee becomes a member of the company, ensuring continuity of the business.
